Vibe with coffee matcha and chocolate matcha tart

December 22, 2025

Vibe industrial waste bins across their shop front. Not good.

Lunchtime,  excellent espresso and iced matcha latte.  The espresso , the flavour notes exploded in my brain.

I returned later, tried their Christmas special, matcha chocolate tart together with a cappuccino.

Nottingham Sunday afternoon and evening

August 10, 2025

Sunday a day of rest, at least I don’t usually go out anywhere. And certainly not a day out in Nottingham.

What was I thinking of?

I learnt last Friday, The Wandering Goblin CLOSED today. I could not not visit on their last day.

It was going to be an expensive day out. I would only make it if I took a taxi to the station.

I looked in Vibe, then set off uphill all the way on a hot day.

An excellent intense espresso, and that was it, sad good bye, and back down hill to the city centre.

I looked in Vibe, now closed for the day. Suggested I might find Effy still open.

Luckily Effy was open.

An Americano , a banana cake for later (I forgot), matcha, a bar of chocolate.

I thought maybe eat at Sexy Mamma Pasta. Not open. Their loss, my gain. I tried the place next door. I always thought it was a kebab joint. Too my surprise a Japanese restaurant.

Hey Danna, a Japanese ramen restaurant. With help from the staff, I chose a ramen dish. From the description, which was why I was baffled, as they all appeared to be the same. I learnt that their were subtle differences.

OMG when my dish came, it was excellent, I could not believe how good it was. It is always a pleasure to find a restaurant where they are passionate about their food.

It was then head to the station, and another taxi.

A very expensive day out.

Nottingham long day

July 28, 2025

Friday of last week, a long hot day in Nottingham.

A warm sunny day. A day for sitting under the shade of the trees.

Late morning, many trains were cancelled or delayed, due to a broken down train. Luckily not my train, though was running late by five minutes.

Leaving Nottingham Railway Station, a dodgem track, near misses with e-bikes and e-scooters, even though in pedestrianised streets.

Riotous display of wild flowers in Broad Marsh Gardens.

Interview with BBC Radio Nottinghamshire on the bloody nuisance of e-bikes and e-scooters.

First port of call Vibe. My mistake, I order matcha latte. I then order iced matcha latte. I am recommend to try  The Wandering Goblin.

Too far to walk, over twenty minutes walk. I’ll hope on a bus. But first, look in The Speciality Coffee Shop. Who I wished to see, no longer there, gone touring in south east Asia.

I decide to visit District Coffee. Around the corner, only a long walk around the corner.

District Coffee, a lot of attention to the design, but let down down by 200 Degrees coffee. They are changing to Cartwheel Coffee. I miss Cartwheel Coffee. Beautiful ceramic mugs. I buy two espresso mugs.

They tell me, The Wandering Goblin is not far.

Somewhere en route I pass by a bakery. Tough Mary’s Bakehouse.   I bought a spelt sour dough loaf and a bag of granola. Both were excellnt excellent.

The Wandering Goblin a quirky coffee shop. Chalked on the board several guest roasteries, most I’ve never heard of. And it’s the coffee that counts.

I was  recommended try Primary, yet further up the road.

Primary an abandoned primary school, now an art exhibition space. It works, where washed walls, daylight spilling in through the windows. Sadly no time for the art, I was there for the coffee. Tiny, hidden in the bowels of the building. Excellent coffee, but let down by a surly barista lacking people skills. Maybe a bad day.

Now five, I miss two buses. No way I’m going to make my train. I decide to walk to the Old Market Square, then head into Hockley

I pass by a massage parlour. Why not? I stop and have a massage.

My last massage in Doncaster, my neck very stiff and painful. No longer be

I continue to Old Market Square and on into Hockley.

A pleasant warm evening. It is as though I’m in Cyprus.

I find a tebaje at Sexy Mamma Pasta. I order risotto with peppers.

… To be e continued …m

Vibe matcha coffee and cheesecake

May 9, 2025

Lunchtime matcha iced latte.

Afternoon matcha cheesecake and cappuccino.

Nottingham Spring Equinox plus one

March 21, 2025

I had hoped a warm sunny day as was York yesterday. Unfortunately not.

Lime rental e-bikes dumped everywhere. Hazard being run down by e-bikes and e-scooters, delivery riders.

No lessons learnt from the unmitigated disaster of rental e-scooters.

Looked in The Bagel Project Carrington Street. Busy, gloomy.

Macha at Vibe. I did not dislike, but did not like. I will stick with coffee or macha cheesecake.

Excellent lunch at Ugly Bread Bakery. I did not realise, they change their offerings every week.

Espresso at Effy. All their coffee filter roast, even though brewed as espresso.

Macha on sale. Very expensive. Tiny bag, 20g twenty pounds upwards.

I was going to visit the Specialty Coffee Shop, but no time. I head back to Vibe.

I cut across Old Market Square. It beggars belief, a Lime rental e-bike dumped in the middle of the square.

Kick Lime off the streets, not only Nottingham, but everywhere. They are a bloody nuisance.

Ban e-bikes,  e-scooters and  deliver riders from the city centre. Anyone ignoring the ban, £100 on-the-spot fine.  And seize and destroy what they are riding.

Impound dumped e-bikes and e-scooters. £250 recovery fee, £50 daily storage fee.

To my pleasant surprise, I find the owner of The Specialty Coffee Shop in Vibe.

In Vibe, cappuccino and macha cheesecake. Chinese girl asks me what I think. She is happy when I tell her she has done an excellent job. She tells me she is not a barista.

When I tell her of my experience in Divine in York where the girl argued with me that a cappuccino was made with chocolate, she started laughing.

Several near misses with delivery riders on  my way to the station.

Nottingham cold sunny day

December 19, 2024

A cold sunny day in Nottingham, six days before Christmas.

Surely a mistake, three coach train to Nottingham.

A quick look in 200 Degrees to pick up copies of Left Lion. It was packed. TOPL travel mug I’ve not seen before.

Depressing, Økende kicked out to make way for Outpost Coffee and The Bagel Project. I don’t have a problem with who is moving in, but loss of Økende from the centre of Nottingham .

Lime rental e-bikes dumped everywhere.

Excellent espresso in Vibe.

Walked through Nottingham Christmas market. Tat and disgusting junk food. An embarrassment.

I was headed to the Ugly Bread Bakery, but decided to try The Bagel Project. Excellent smoked salmon with cream cheese, bagel seeded with poppy seeds. I didn’t look at the MN enu, asked for what I wanted. Downside, somewhere seedy, more of a takeaway with seating. Not good the bagels stored in the cellar next to the toilet.

Back to Vibe for excellent Tofu cheesecake.

Retraced my steps to Effy. Looked in on Cosmos. They have on sale the latest Aeropress crystal, ditto to Go plus, and what I think is the latest Timemore hand grinder.

To  Effy. Excellent espresso.

I didn’t have the time, but to Dispatch for a cappuccino. Overstayed my time.

Lucky not to miss my train. Not overcrowded. Full by not crammed in like sardines.

I was shattered.

10991 steps.

I was heading #bagels #coffee #Nottingham

Vibe

June 18, 2024

Where once Effy, now Vibe, coffee shop and roastery. Effy has relocated.

I’d been invited to visit several months ago. Finally, I pay a visit.

Interesting glass cups for espresso and cappuccino.

I commented quite. Chinese come later. There was then a steady stream of young Chinese.

I was very surprised to find Wushwush. The first time since Colombia Coffee Roasters in Oxford.
