Cappuccino at Stokes Lawn Café

August 31, 2017

Cappuccino in Stokes Lawn Café.

I again chose their Guatemalan blend. It was far superior to the undrinkable cappuccino from their house blend served at Stokes on High Bridge yesterday.

I was pleased they have followed my suggestion, now a menu with some information on the coffees they serve, but what they need is a lot more information on each coffee.

Part of the decor, maybe not intentional, is steampunk themed, for example the lamps and the metal piping for the shelves.

In a way as the steam punk festival had it origins at The Lawn a pity not more of a steampunk theme.

The exhibition in Lincoln Castle for The Imaginarium, the display had similar in copper piping.

I learnt they have a small theatre, the Blue Room, which is being used for external events.  The lamps came from the theatre.

Afternoon in Lincoln

August 31, 2017

A wander around Lincoln Cathedral. A quick peek inside via the tea room.

Long chat with a Chinese lady and her two children. I explained the Lincoln Knights, the secret code on each, gave them my leaflet. Showed them a few Knights, escorted around Lincoln Cathedral, to Bailgate and Newport Arch where they had a car parked.

At the weekend, grudgingly spent over a tenner to gain access to Lincoln Castle, as otherwise had to walk around. Fortunate in a way, as met Gary Nicholls and picked up a copy of his steampunk limited edition The Imaginarium.

The reason had to pay to gain access, steampunk weekend, with stalls.

Not so bad when told ticket valid six months, though access is as a general rule free, apart from certain areas.

A few days ago, not able to access paid areas, as too late. I tried again today, to be told ticket has to be stamped, as gaining re-admission. Er no, I have yet to access any of these areas, I paid to access the Castle grounds, something that is usually free.

More Knights found. One in the car park of The Lawn, a strange place to be, the other outside Museum of Lincolnshire Life.

Cappuccino at Stokes on High Bridge

August 31, 2017

Last week, cappuccino at Stokes Lawn Cafe using their house blend not good. Why I do not know.

Using their Guatemalan blend far far better.

Tried a cappuccino at Stokes on High Bridge.

As with a cappuccino at Stokes Lawn Cafe it was not good. Why I do not know.

Not good an understatement,  undrinkable.

Strange as always has been good.

Morning in Lincoln

August 30, 2017

Last couple of days much cooler than the weekend.

More Lincoln Knights found, mini-Knights.

Cappuccino at Stokes Lawn Cafe using their house blend not good. Why I do not know.

Try a cappuccino at Stokes on High Bridge.

As with a cappuccino at Stokes Lawn Cafe it was not good. Why I do not know

Strange as always has been good.

More Knights found in the Brayford.

Brayford an eyeseore. Tragic when waht could have been, old mills and warehouse restored.

Cappuccino at Makushi

August 30, 2017

I could have had a coffee at Stokes on High Bridge, but no, walk up Steep Hill and have a coffee at Makushi.

As always cappuccino at Makushi excellent, once used to strange taste due to light roast.

It was then try a filter coffee using a Chemex with two coffees I had brought along.

First Finca Imacculada Laurina from Colombia, followed by Martin Hudak Signature Geisha from Panama. Both roasted by  Union Hand-Roasted Coffee.

Tuesday afternoon in Lincoln

August 30, 2017

What a difference a day makes. Bank Holiday Monday 26 C, Tuesday 16 C, a drop of ten degrees.

I was tempted to pop in Stokes on High Bridge, but decided no, head up to Makushi where I spent most of the afternoon.

Cappuccino at Makushi was excellent, once used to strange taste due to light roast.

Asylum Steampunk Festival

August 29, 2017

Welcome to The Asylum.

Day 4 of Lincoln steam punk festival.

Up The Strait, Steep Hill, to Castle Square.

Pizza washed down with a Asylum Ale. Neither great. Followed by a cappuccino from Gourmet Coffee. The coffee scalding hot, chocolate dumped on top.

What was bad, with the noticeable exception of the veggie stall, the use of polystyrene boxes and plates. The steampunk organisers must tighten up, no stall granted a concession unless everything can be recycled or composted.

Later I walked to Stokes Lawn Cafe to get a decent cappuccino.

I missed what was happening in the Castle Grounds, catching the tail end of steam punks describing how they made their back packs.

A long chat with with Gary Nicholls, author of The Imaginarium, who had a stall within the Castle Grounds. He told me a little about himself and the project.

A few of the prints are in the style of Caravaggio.

I had looked the day before, looked again before popping to Stokes Lawn Cafe for a decent coffee, then on my way back, a long chat, as by now there were few people around.

The Imaginarium is fine art prints on meatl, it is a book, eventually a trilogy.

Both prints and book, are limited editions, the book bound in leather, individually numbered and signed. Expensive.

I bought a copy of the book.

Gourmet Coffee

August 29, 2017

Gourmet Coffee, a meaningless name for a coffee van, as there is no such thing.

Cappuccino off Gourmet Coffee, scalding hot and chocolate dumped on top. If called Gourmet Coffee, which is meaningless, almost goes without saying will be serving rubbish coffee.
