Spaghetti carbonara, not a dish I’ve tried before.
Crazy Appetite located on the south side of St Benedict’s Square, High Street between Boots and M&S.
Always check the specials menu. A soup and the main dish.

Lunch at Crazy Appetite.
Always check the specials.
Spinach and ricotta ravioli with tomato ragu. Excellent.
Last week the pasta dish was excellent.
Yesterday the creamy mushroom porcini ravioli in creamy sauce with courgettes was excellent.
Excellent pasta dish at Amazing Appetite.
I was tempted by spicy parsnip soup, but decided to change to pasta and creamy chicken.
The pasta was penne, which I don’t usually like. But this was excellent.
A very cold bleak day.
City centre almost deserted.
Lincolnshire flooded, River Witham flowing high and fast.
Crazy Appetite deserted. Excellent leek and potato soup.
Disgusting behaviour by a man in M&S. Sneezes into his hands, then handles ready meals, then places back on the shelves. Staff alerted.
Cappuccino in Coffee Aroma.
B&M, the service gets worse. McVities chocolate biscuits, priced differently on different locations in the shelves. I could see no difference in the products. I drew attention to the anomaly at the till. A member of staff is dispatched to check, returns with the lower price off the shelves, proof I was correct. Refused to sell at the lower price.
If a product is on display at a price it has to be sold at that price. Or refuse to sell. The shop can be fined £1000 for each item incorrectly priced.
Customers were stood to one side, arguing over their purchases incorrectly priced.
Many bus routes have had their schedules changed. No information at the bus station.
A very very cold day.
River Witham flowing high fast and muddy following Storm Darragh over the weekend.
B&M long queue from one end of the shop to the other. Was I jumping the queue when I walked to another till?
Specials menu at Crazy Appetite. Olive bread with avocado and poached egg or beetroot soup.
Olive bread I don’t like, and why ruin it with poached egg? Beetroot I don’t like.
I chose beetroot soup. Luckily it did not taste of beetroot. I remember when I had borsch soup at a dinner for Ukraine with Jamie Oliver. It did not taste of beetroot either, but then I did have copious vodka and wine.
Later a coffee at Coffee Aroma.
Excellent roasted red peppers and tomato 🍅 soup served with bread and butter.
Lincoln city centre is a food swamp: crap corporate chain eateries, disgusting junk food takeaways and binge drinking bars.
There are though rare exceptions, little islands of excellence. Crazy Appetite, formerly Bar Unico, a little Italian restaurant, is one of those rare exceptions .
There are a handful of other places, I could count on one hand, but not in the city centre, word of mouth.
I was very grateful for a Polish waitress who fixed a problem with my phone that I was unable to resolve. We also had an interesting conversation about sauerkraut and foraging for wild fungi.
