Bailgate Deli reopens

February 15, 2026

I am pleased to report Bailgate Deli has finally reopened. Reopened last week. Closed for nearly two months.

Sold and closed before Christmas. New owners.

A pity they did not keep people informed.
The lunchtime menu appears not to have changed.

Breakfast menu? I don’t know if this is new or not. Not seen before. But never been for breakfast. Hopefully not disgusting vegan fake sausages, fake bacon. No excuse for not plant based,or at least plant based. Beans on sourdough toast, mushrooms on sourdough toast, grilled tomatoes, hash brownies, pancakes.

Very limited deli stock, which is being run down.  Wellbeck sourdough bread and Momo kombucha.

Depressing poor quality coffee and matcha has not been ditched. No excuse for either, not when spoilt for choice excellent coffee roasteries, and it is possible to source quality matcha.

The only plant-based deli in Lincoln?

Bailgate is being dug up to replace the setts. Free one hour parking in the nearby car parks, but a hassle, have to use an app or make a phone call. Hopefully will then be pedestrianised. Increased footfall, longer dwell time, less air pollution. Win win for everyone.

Bailgate Deli CLOSED

February 2, 2026

Bailgate Deli sadly closed before Christmas, Sold, has sat derelict ever since.

I have passed by a couple of times since it closed, no sign of it reopening any time soon.

It was an excellent place to eat, a rarity in Lincoln, a food swamp of crap corporate chain eateries, disgusting junk food takeaways and binge drinking bars.

The dishes were plant-based, made with love, freshly made from fresh ingredients. The fruit and vegetables sourced from the greengrocer around the corner.

The menu simple. Always a good sign. A complex menu means nothing freshly prepared.

On sale fresh made flapjacks.

The staff always friendly helpful and welcoming.

What has happened to the staff? Are they being paid. If lose the staff, Bailgate Deli will not exist,as they were Bailgate Deli.

On sale Wellbeck sourdough bread and Momo kombucha.

Could improvements be made. Of course, there’s always room for improvements, and if don’t improve, stagnate and get left behind.

Ditch the disgusting coffee from Lincoln Tea and Coffee. Spoilt for choice these days with independent roasteries.

Ditch the tea from Imperial Tea, especially the very poor quality matcha. Try Tea Lab.

The longer stays closed, people will get into the habit of going elsewhere and not return.

The dearth of information, rumours spread, fill the information vacuum.

Bailgate Deli has now been closed for a month and a half. Hopefully it will reopen soon.

Update: After a very very long wait, now open.  Lunchtime menu as before. Wellbeck sourdough bread. Limited deli stock.

Bailgate Deli

A hidden gem down a pedestrian side street off Bailgate. It’s pleasant to sit outside on a warm sunny day.

A small deli, serves food until around three-thirty. Drinks until around four.

Local produce wherever possible.

Tuesday ,  falafel salad. Tasty, generous portion size. I did not have time to finish, it was packed into a box, more than sufficient for my tea. A compostable box. I fill with kitchen scraps, then toss on the compost heap.

Friday, soup of the day. Tasty, filling, accompanied by two slices of buttered bread.

Menu plant based.

On sale, sour dough bread, kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut, peanut butter, Bombay mix,

Occasionally coffee grounds are put outside. Help yourself.  Do not put it in the garden. Put on the compost heap.

Coffee and matcha, room for improvement.

Very friendly and helpful staff.

Five a Day fruit and vegetables is dated. My two meals, a long way towards the recommended 25 plus plants a week.
