Cocktail Bar The Allotment Collingham

December 13, 2025

Saturday evening last week, pleasantly surprised to find The Allotment open, busy, packed.

During the day an excellent coffee shop ,  Saturday evening it turns into a cocktail bar.

A knowledgeable bartender mixing the cocktails. Quality, not the cheap rubbish find in pubs and binge drinking bars. Lincoln Jazz Cafe a rare exception.

Very limited choice. Though I’d rather have a limited choice, than a large choice clueless on  how to make. Though I’m sure, would make if asked.

I recommended

  • Dicktales – Dick Bradsell

Dick Bradsell created the espresso martini, the London cocktail scene.

I also recommended follow Dan Fellows, UK world champion coffee in good spirits for two years running.

My version of the espresso martin, a slight variant of that by Dan Fellows, we both independently arrived at an updated espresso martini.

Why busy? People don’t like pubs. Cocktail Bar The Allotment, pleasant atmosphere, pleasant staff.

We hear a lot of whining from failing hospitality, pleas for special treatment, tax concession, government bailouts and handouts. They are failing because they are crap. The places where they care, focus on quality, passion about what they are doing, understand customer service, are not failing,

Collingham is located midway between Lincoln and Newark. A very dangerous junction on the A46, a death trap. It should be closed, a roundabout. Turn off before Collingham and take the country lanes.

The Allotment revisit

August 17, 2025

I visited The Allotment last Saturday of the month in January. I visited again, the first Saturday of the month in February.

Several things  I noticed on arrival, that. I’d not noticed on my previous visit. .

A fruit and vegetable stall outside. I bought Cyprus potatoes and Egyptian peas. I learnt two stalls every Saturday morning, Grain of Truth bread stall and Nathan Willows fruit and vegetables.

At least two charging stations in the car park for electric vehicles.

An allotment or maybe communal garden.

Inside it was packed. I learnt later it was even busier earlier.  The stalls outside bring in trade.

Spiced parsnip soup, creamy mushrooms on toast to share, coffee, a cake to share. Everything was excellent.

A couple of minutes walk from the station, train fron Lincoln or Newark.

By car from Lincoln , a death trap trying to cross the A46 to reach Collingham. There needs to be a roundabout. From Lincoln, turn off for Swinderby and take the country lanes.

The Allotment Kitchen and Deli

Saturday of last week, a visit to The Allotment Kitchen and Deli.

Located in the village of Collingham, surprisingly large and spacious. Tastefully decorated. Serving food and coffee.

Excellent creamy mushrooms on toast. Generous portion, sufficient for two to share.

Coffee from a small roastery in Bristol. Not great. An improvement on 200 Degrees, especially now owned by Caffè Nero.

I recommended try the blend Outpost Coffee supply to Despatch. And maybe, rotating guest  coffees for something special.

For Stilton I’d recommend Colston Blue, and for something very special try Stichelton.

Sour dough bread from Wellbeck Bakery or Grain of Truth.

Almond croissants from Wellbeck Bakery or Grain of Truth.

The Allotment Kitchen and Deli, one of a small group of family run coffee shops, The Allotment Kitchen and Deli run by the son with help from his father.  Both very pleasant and helpful.

Collingham, hourly trains from Lincoln and Nottingham, a short walk from the station.

By car, accessed via a very dangerous junction off the A46.
