Popeyes Lincoln

December 4, 2025

Where once was Ann Summers sex shop, now Popeyes US corporate junk food.

Monday and Tuesday, opening offer displayed prominently in the window, chicken in a brioche bun, free chips, free can of coke. Open on Thursday, offer only available opening week.

Disgusting junk food, a cross between KFC and McDonald’s, the worst of both worlds.

But hey, let’s slum it.

Popeyes was packed. Ghastly. Moronic loud music thudding out. I spied an empty table. Dirty, but empty.

Young lady by the door said, use the screen or use our app. No way. Never install apps unless essential. They exist to steal data. Never use the screens. Swab tests in McDonald’s found  contaminated with human faeces.

Welcome to the Popeyes no existent customer service.

The young lady trying to be helpful, scrolled through the screen. Everything more expensive than the offer. She  could not find the offer. She was embarrassed. She went off to find a manager.

Two managers in quick succession. They blatantly lied. There was no offer. If there was, only available on the app.

A third manager came. He apologised. Said the offer was last week . Not open last week. And only this week has the offered appeared in the window. He then explained, it was a mistake by Popeyes, it was intended for London Bridge.

Mistake or not, the offer stands. He said there was nothing available.

Whilst this fricasse was happening, two young ladies sat at an adjacent table. They were there for the offer.

As I’m leaving, a man sat the other side of me. He opened up his order. It was the same as the offer, chicken in a brioche bun, the most disgusting chips I’ve ever seen, but no coke.

Punters have walked in for an offer, not available, then ordered something else. Something else a lot more expensive

Trading Standards have been made aware.

Planning consent should never have been granted for change of use from retail to junk food for a prime retail location.

Ultra-processed food is killing more people than smoking.

Depressing, kids before it opened, waiting outside.

The A-board in the middle of the High Street blocking the High Street.

The outlet is an eyesore on the High Street.

Popeyes eyesore on the High Street disgusting junk food. Stomach churning stench of their cooking drifting down Saltergate. Not pleasant when sat outside Lark Books bookshop. #obesity #junkfood #ultraprocessedfood #Lincoln

Update: The week after opening, not busy.

Update: The stomach churning stench from their cooking drifting down Saltergate. Not pleasant when ssat outside Lark Book. Do they not have carbon filters installed? Was this not a condition of granting planning consent? If not, why not? Lincoln City Council need to address this.

Update: Not a single person I’ve spoken to saw a planning Notice in the street for change of use.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has questioned why we are seeing a rise in ADHD. There is a strong l link between ADHD and ultra-processed food. Maybe Wes Streeting should stand outside Popeyes and observe the queue of kids.

Ultra-processed food rewires the brain.

The fight back has begun. San Francisco is taking action against ten ultra-processed food companies.

Popeyes opening soon

Loss of retail, prime retail site, on a corner next to The Stonebow.

Does Lincoln really need yet another disgusting junk food outlet? Worse still, a US corporate chain draining money out of the local economy?

It is bad enough, side streets, further down the High Street over the level crossing, vape shops, Turkish barbers, disgusting junk food takeaways. Plus the nuisance of delivery riders. But not in the city centre.

Not the only one, top of the High Street, in the The Strait.

Lincoln is being trashed, and the City Council is enabling it, clueless on what constitutes good town centre planning, how local economies function.

Obesity crisis. Ultra-processed food is now a bigger killer than smoking. Planners could have rejected on grounds: junk food, not suitable location, loss of retail. Why did they not? Where was the planning notice in the street?

Lincoln is a food swamp: crap corporate chain eateries, disgusting junk food takeaways and binge drinking bars. And it is getting worse.

Saturday, gangs of drunken scum turn the city centre into a no-go area. A binge drinking bar opens every six months.

Two charity shops top of the High Street have closed recently. On a Saturday, they saw no customers after three. Killed by the binge drinking bars and the low life they attract,

In the last 18 months, over forty greasy spoon cafes masquerading as coffee shops have opened. Few will last more than six months.

Does no one care about the city, no one take a pride in the city?

Adding to the problems of struggling local businesses, Lincoln BIG and their BID Levy extortion racket.
