Walking around the City Walls from York Railway Station, I was looking forward to sitting outside Partisan on a warm sunny day relaxing with a coffee.
Where had the bench seat gone? A worthless Jobsworth had ordered its removal. Why? It cannot be classed as outdoor seating, not blocking the street. Further down the street, large A-boards blocking the footpath, fenced off seating blocking the footpath.
The very least Partisan deserves an explanation, and provided with a copy of the rules.
I’ve never anywhere come across a business ordered to remove a bench or told they need a pavement licence. it was not in any way obstructing the public footpath.
Is this how York City Council supports local businesses?
There is very little traffic in Mickelgate. Why is it not pedestrianised? Or the very least, a low traffic neighbourhood?
