Not great, not bad.
Very poor compared with pasta in a good Italian restaurant.
Accompanied with a glass of kefir, followed by affogato.

Recently I popped into an ethnic supermarket in Scunthorpe. Half a dozen different kefir to choose from. The staff could give me no guidance.
At random, I picked two, one from Poland one from Romania.
Krasnystaw kefir from Poland in another league to any kefir I’ve previously tried. Creamy and citrus notes.
Excellent as a glass of kefir at breakfast, or added to muesli.
The label says live microbes and kefir grains.
I contacted bit dairies. Last week I heard from Romania to tell me their kefir did not contain live cultures. The Polish dairy has not got back to me.
For people who dislike kefir, try a Polish kefir.
I came across in an ethnic supermarket in Scunthorpe. A choice of half a dozen. I picked two at random, Romania and Poland. Creamy, acidic. The best tasting I’ve encountered.
Label claims microbes and kefir grains.
I’ve contacted the dairy for more information, but no response.
Starting 1 October, each day add three different fermented foods to what you eat.
For three weeks, starting 1 October , dates then tally with the day of trial, add each day three different fermented foods or drinks: Greek yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha.
Log each day
Feel free to continue beyond three weeks if you experience health benefits. Feel free to record any improvements in health. Or of course if no benefits or health deteriorates.
Encourage friends and colleagues to participate.
Start date First of October not set it stone. Only chosen for the date of the month to tally with the day of the trial.
Fermentation as a means to preserve food existed long before canning, refrigeration and freezing. For example, sourdough bread, wine, beer, cheese, yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha.
Fermentation is alchemy. One food is converted to another, as if by magic. Not only does it keep longer, it tastes different.

Blue Zones have demonstrated the importance of diet. No ultra-processed food.
Five a Day is dated. Though for many, five a day would be an improvement. Eat 30 plants a week. Not as difficult as it sounds. 30 plants a week: fruit, vegetables, grain, pulses and legumes, herbs, spices, fungi.
Plant-based, not exclusive vegetarian or vegan.

Blue Zones have demonstrated the importance of exercise. Not a gym, walking and gardening.
Download and install a step counter. Aim for at least 5,000 steps a day. Occasional bursts of faster walking. For example hurrying to catch a bus.
Only a handful of countries have issued dietary guidelines on eating fermented foods. Not the UK , still on the dated Five a Day, a political class in hock to Big Pharma and Big Food.
We can improve our health by improving our diet.
To his credit Jamie Oliver with his latest Channel 4 series Eat Yourself Healthy (September 2025), the focus is on nutrition and how we can improve what we eat.
No milk with which to make iced matcha latte.
Adaptation from Jamie Oliver Eat Yourself Healthy. Book and Channel 4 series of the same name.
My usual method of making iced mango lassi
Blitz in a blender, serve with ice in an ice cold glass.
A variant, if no yoghurt or milk, top up with kefir.
A variant today using blackberries, blueberries and a slice of Galia melon.
Equal portions of blackberries and blueberries to mango.
A twist of the salt and pepper pots. We season food, why not drinks?
Blitz. Serve with two large ice cubes in a chilled glass. Enjoy.
ONG this is good.
Using kefir provides about the same consistency as yoghurt and milk.
Try Tims fake Greek kefir, will produce a dessert like consistency.
A good start to the day, a glass of organic kefir?
I thought I’d never before tasted kefir, and yet it was strangely familiar.
Thick and creamy.
I topped up the glass with an apple pineapple banana coconut smoothie. Then topped up again with kefir.
How easy to make? When almost empty, refill with mulk?
