On a visit to York on Thursday I decided to visit a couple of coffee shops I’d not visited before. One of these Divine was about ten minutes out of my way in Micklegate. It was not worth the detour.
Pleasant decor , books by James Hoffmann and Dhan Tamang on a shelf behind the bar, for show not for customers to browse.
A row of syrups at the front of the bar, not a good sign.
Girl serving coffee clueless. Argued that it is not a cappuccino if does not have chocolate on top. Wrong. Embarrassing.
Bags of coffee on shelves. No roast date, no price. Best by date is meaningless. I would have asked of the price and roast date, but the girl behind the bar was too busy chatting on her phone.
The only plus of visiting Divine was that I passed an excellent bakery, Bar Hashery, en route, which I then retraced my steps to. The bakery sourced excellent coffee from Origin.
On leaving Divine, a visit to Kiosk in Fossgate, the place for coffee in York.
On leaving York, I passed Divine next to a Costa.
