Carajillo

January 21, 2024

A two ingredient Mexican cocktail, Licor 43 topped with a layer of fresh brewed espresso.

Looks pleasant, but does not taste good, the drink will mix. Stir. The result is a murky brown, lukewarm cocktail, that neither looks good nor tastes good.

What can we do to improve the Carajillo? Turn it into something more like an espresso martini.

– 30ml Licor 43
– 20ml Borghetti coffee liqueur
– two shots of fresh espresso
– 3 dashes of cacao bitters

Shake with ice, add three dashes of cacao bitters  into chilled glass, strain into a chilled  martini glass. Garnish with grated cacao.

Credit Ben @ White Horse.

Always use fresh brewed espresso.

Licor 43 and glass chilled (ideally in a freezer).

Improved if omit the grated raw cacao. Already have cacao bitters which give a chocolate note.

The Italian liqueur is less sweet than Kalua. Already have the sweetness from the Licor 43.

Can substitute Mr Black Amora for the coffee liqueur.

Thanks to Ben for the explanation.

Kine Mr Blacks Coffee Amaro

September 17, 2023

I had lunch at Kine a couple of weeks ago, had I not had a beer, I may have tried Mr Blacks Coffee Amaro. I said I would pop in one day, and try.

Saturday I was on my way to Coffee Aroma, bumped into the manager who asked was I popping in? I thought why not.

I knew what I wanted, Mr Blacks Coffee Amaro.

I was expecting a dessert, well the menu did list as a liquid dessert. What I was served was a coffee liqueur, an Amaro

Amaro: Italian bitter liqueur with herbs.

Vermouth: Italian bitter liqueur fortified wine with herbs. Examples would be Campari, Aperol, Aperini.

Mr Blacks Coffee Aroma is a coffee liqueur Amaro. Fortified with botanical distillates, local grapefruit and orange peel and gentian.

Passing nearby I dropped in for a coffee liqueur.

Brettos unfortunately attracts drunken scum, and this was one of those nights.
