What Not To Eat

January 13, 2026

A Channel 4 series where Professor Tim Spector and Dr Kandi Ejiofor investigate ultra-processed foods and the harmful effects they have on our health.

Ultra-processed foods, highly processed foods with additives to make them palatable.

An overweight couple, what they were eating, made me feel sick.

Wine ultra-processed food? Is not a glass of red wine healthy?

Throw out the crap, introduce healthy choices.

Why is it not routine, these measurements taken when we visit our doctor, coupled with advice on healthy eating?

Greek yogurt, not fake Greek yoghurt.

Kefir found in Polish and ethnic shops is superior to that found on supermarket shelves.

An amazing turnaround in six weeks. The couple looked healthier . And the data backed it up. They were an inspiration to all of us.

Joe Wicks killer protein bar

October 6, 2025

Excellent Channel 4 programme highlighting the dangers of ultra-processed food and the failure of successive governments to legislate to protect us from Big Food pushing food like substances that are harming us

Shock tactics, create a killer protein bar. On the cover extolling its virtues. On the back highlighting that it is killing us.

We know ultra-processed food is killing us, exceeds smoking as the leading cause of death.

Big Food uses the same techniques as Big Tobacco. Peddling a dangerous product, lobbying our corrupt political class not to legislate, denying that there is a problem.

Decades ago, Big Tobacco testified one by one to a US Hearing, tobacco is not harmful. Their own research showed that it was.

We need action by the government, treat ultra-processed food as we treat tobacco.

  • stark health warnings
  • ultra-processed food tax
  • no promotion or sponsorship

We are what we eat. Five a Day is dated.

  • eat 30 plants a week
  • eat the rainbow
  • add fermented foods to our diet (at least three)
  • avoid ultra-processed food

No one needs protein bars, protein shakes. It’s a multi billion dollar global scam. The average person on a varied diet consumes more than sufficient protein. Excess protein is not stored. It passes through, or is converted to sugars andĀ  fat. We are deficient in fibre.

For three weeks add every day three different fermented foods to what you eat. Yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha. Record every day mood, energy, hunger.

We need to exercise more, walk everywhere every day. Download and install a step counter. Try and walk at least 5,000 steps a day.

Sickening the response from Big Food to the programme. As sickening as the shit they add to our food. They failed to mention only legal because of their lobbying of our corrupt political class. Failed to mention banned in many countries.

Following broadcast, sour grapes from  Tim Spectator and Federica Amati. Could it be because they wish to hype Zoe in advance of a share offering?

Education has had minimal impact, nor has softly softly lobbying of the corrupt political class. Maybe time for shock tactics. History has shown us that the only effective action that forces change is direct action.

Maybe look to Singapore and their attempt to create Blue Zone 2.0. We need to make it easier, create the environment to make healthy food choices.Ā  Create a step counter app, where steps are rewarded. Points to be spent on healthy food choices.

Pimp for Pepsi and Coca-Cola

March 26, 2025

According to Wikileaks, MAGA influencers have told their followers to stop RFK Jr removing Coke, Pepsi, etc. from the US food stamps program, without disclosing that they were being paid by PR firm ‘Influenceable’.

Multiple twitter posts with nearly identical messaging emerged within 48 hours.

@nicksortor exposed the brief ā€˜Influenceable’ sent to participating accounts, which were offered up to $1,000 per post.

US food stamps should not be used for Pepsi and Coke, not unless used for toilet cleaner.

Food For Life is a reference book on food. Look up any food or food groups. It compliments two  previous books by Tim Spector.

Ultra-processed Food is scary, really scary, the food like substances we are all being brain washed into eating. The root of all evil, well almost. The cause of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, mental health issues.

Ultra-processed food 60% of our diet for adults, 100% for children and young adults.

For a healthy diet, we need to eat 30 different plants a week, fruit, vegetables, grains, nuts, pulses, legumes, spices, fungi.

M&S beef sandwich

M&S beef sandwich. If this is their best, I hate to think what their worst was like.

Healthy eating

November 17, 2024

We are what we eat. Why are people happy to gorge themselves on ultra-processed food?

Ultra-processed food not only leads to heart disease , type 2 diabetes and obesity, it also rewires our brain, diminishes our cognitive abilities.

Ultra processed food is costing the country £268 billion a year.

We should treat ultra-processed food in the same way we treat smoking.

  • health warning
  • tax
  • no promotion or sponsorship

The disastrous Labour Budget last month was a lost opportunity. Why no tax on ultra-processed food cf sugar tax. Instead we had a tax on people, which will have the following impact on small businesses.

  • lay people off
  • cut their hours
  • or go out of business.

Obese and overweight unemployed to be given fat loss jabs

October 15, 2024

We welcome this opportunity to partner with the UK Government on tackling and preventing disease, and accelerating innovation to advance care delivery models. — David A Ricks, chairman and chief executive of Lilly

Is this an obscene sick joke from Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer, to force overweight unemployed to have a fat loss jab? This is reminiscent of Nazi Germany.

Obesity is a health crisis. We don’t abuse people with cancer, why abuse the obese and overweight? A nice little earner for Big Pharma. Why no questions on donations?

Obesity is costing the NHS £11 billion a year, the economy over £60 billion a year. We tackle by encouraging healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Not by punishing people.

  • avoid ultra-processed food
  • label ultra-processed food with a health warning cf tobacco
  • tax ultra-processed food cf sugar tax
  • treat ultra-processed food as we treat smoking no promotion no sponsorship
  • eat 30 different plants a week
  • eat fermented foods
  • drink coffee
  • eat dark chocolate

Weight loss diets do not work. Calorie counting does not work. Count plants not calories. Focus on the quality of the food not calories. We are what we eat.

30 plants: fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, fungi, spices.

Fermented foods: live Greek yoghurt, live kefir, artisan cheese from raw milk, live sauerkraut, live kimchi, sourdough bread.

Will this be compulsory, lose benefits if do not ‘volunteer’for a fat jab? What of compensation for side effects? Have signed away rights by volunteering for a government enforced drug trial? The Nazis used prisoners for their medical experiments, the British government the unemployed.

This is the beginning of privatising the NHS, sick people are for private profit. On the day this was announced, articles appeared in the press promoting private sector involvement in the NHS.

We did warn, NHS not safe under Wes Streeting or Keir Starmer. Look at the money flowing from US private health care interests. It’s now payback time.

This is not to play down we have an obesity crisis. Adults are eating a diet of 60% ultra-processed food. Children and young people 100% ultra-processed food.  Toddlers are drinking a can of Coke or fizzy sugary drink a day. Five year olds in the UK are 5cm shorter than kids of the same age in Denmark or the Netherlands.

In France and Spain they eat only around 12% ultra-processed food.

Instead of compulsory jabs oops voluntary but lose benefits if don’t agree, why not offer a year’s enrollment on Zoe? And each time sign on, offer two packs of Zoe Daily30+ which will kick start the 30 plants a week.

And why are the unemployed forced to sign on, to be humiliated and bullied every two weeks? Introduce a Universal income. And instead of demonising unemployed, even worse overweight unemployed, target tax dodging.

We need to help not punish. A chef in Leeds is offering cooking classes for the unemployed. Mint Lane Cafe, a social enterprise cafe in Lincoln, is offering cookery classes.

Hand out free copies of Food For Life Cookbook or How to Eat 30 Plants a Week.

Fat loss jabs paid for privately, £200 a month for the first few months, then increase to £300 to £400 a month. Weight loss is not permanent, will bounce back. Reliant on the jabs. What are the long term consequences ? A nice little earner for Big Pharma.

Dieting does not work. Calorie counting does not work. Creates a yo-yo. The body is not fooled for long, will compensate and bounce back to the original weight.

The only weight loss known to work, is an extreme diet in China, that leads to dramatic weight loss and the weight loss is maintained.

Ultra-processed food is addictive and should be treated as an addiction. The brain is rewired to desire ultra-processed food.

Ultra-processed food feeds bad gut microbes which demand more ultra-processed food.

Ultra-processed food turns off the genetic switches that tells us we are satiated.

Ultra-processed food is nutrient deficient, we eat more to compensate, and thus put on weight.

Consumption of ultra-processed is linked to health issues including cancer risk, high blood pressure, anxiety, asthma and Type 2 diabetes.

Ultra-processed food now kills more people than smoking.

Overweight unemployed are suffering stress, can’t find work, lack of money, bullying by thugs in job centres, leading to binge eating of ultra-processed food.

Update: Conversation with a pharmacist. Cost £1-99 for four to five weeks, a jab every week. The cost then rises, increased dosage. For how long? When reached the desired weight. Side effects? We manage when they arise. Bounce back to original weight? We advise on lifestyle to maintain the desired weight. Prescription from a doctor? Possible, but unlikely.

Update: Conversation with a pharmacist. No, we do not supply weight loss jabs. A local doctor will not subscribe , not provided on the NHS. Can only obtain privately.

Bread

September 21, 2024

Carbs are bad for us?

Bread is bad for us? It depends.

Supermarket sliced white bread with a long list of ingredients, including emulsifiers, is bad for us. Ultra processed food.

Bread from a local bakery, flour, water, yeast, maybe a little salt, preferably with wholegrain flour, is not bad for us.

The industrial factory produced bread is light and fluffy. It encourages us to eat more.

Archeological remainsbshow we have been eating bread for at least 10,000 years.

When are ‘healthy’ foods not healthy?

August 21, 2024

Many foods and drink we think of as healthy are not healthy, especially those promoted as healthy. Low fat yoghurt , high protein cereals

In what has to be seen as an oxymoron, M&S is to remove ultra processed ingredients from foods it promotes as healthy.

Green & Black’s  ultra processed butterscotch chocolate

August 16, 2024

Green & Black’s (owned by Cadbury’s) was launched to show it is possible to make high quality chocolate. Those days are long gone.

Taste and texture fine, but look at the long, very long, list of ingredients, including emulsifiers.

Ingredients: Cane sugar, whole milk powder, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, butterscotch (cane sugar,  glucose syrup, butter,  palm oil, molasses), emulsifier (sova lecithins), vanilla extract. .

Green & Black’s claim to be ethical. It is not ethical to peddle ultra processed chocolate.

Mondelez (owner of Cadbury’s ) invests in Israeli start ups in Occupied Palestine.
