President Trump elect

November 9, 2016

A landslide victory for Donald Trump.

Once again the opinion polls and media pundits proved wrong.

George Galloway:

Criminal Clinton’s support for NAFTA, Wall St, (which paid for her election, along with Saudi Arabia) and adventurist foreign policy and war has cost her big time. And the neoliberal Democrats who torpedoed Sanders’ campaign and followed her blindly have handed the Presidency to Trump.
And as for the pollsters, pundits, politicians…All you “experts” just took a hell of a beating ( again).

It is easy to see why a landslide for Trump.

Since the early 1970s wages for ordinary Americans have flat-lined.

Across America rusting steel mills, derelict factories.

Bill Clinton signed Nafta which relocated jobs across the border to Mexico.

Barack Obama pushed TTIP. Hilary Clinton backed TTIP.

TTIP is now dead.

The banks collapsed in 2008. Ordinary American lost their homes.

Obama bailed out the banks.

Hilary Clinton backed by Wall Street.

A corrupt political establishment out of touch with ordinary Americans.

Hilary Clinton personifies that corrupt political  establishment.

Bernie Sanders was best placed to beat Donald Trump.

The corrupt Democratic establishment rigged the Primaries.

Bernie Sanders lacked the courage to stand as an Independent, with Jill Stein as his running mate.

Two bad candidates, two rats in a rat race.

Donald Trump is reviled, Hilary Clinton is hated. She was the worst possible candidate to be put up against Trump.

Jeremy Corbyn summed it up, Americans have voted against the existing economic system. A system that exists to enrich the rich.

We now have to hope Donald Trump is surrounded by good people.

Now here’s a radical thought:

  • Hilary Clinton  Secretary of State
  • Bernie Sanders Treasury or Labour
  • Jill Stein Environment

He must phase out coal and oil, but replace the jobs.

He must support Nato.

He appears to have good relations with Russia.

The world holds its breath.

Leak of TTIP papers

TTIP leaks

These leaks should be seen as another nail in the coffin of a toxic trade deal that corporate power is unsuccessfully trying to impose on ordinary people and our democracies. — Guy Taylor, Global Justice Now

It was bound to happen at some time, a leak of TTIP papers.

Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), as the leaked papers shows, has nothing to do with trade. Trade is a front to hide the biggest power grab in human history by global corporations, all being pushed through in secret by the EU.

No one should be surprised at this.

EU does not exist for the citizens of Europe, as we saw with the crushing of Greece.

EU exists as a cartel to further the interest of big business.

Today Greenpeace Netherlands have released 248 leaked pages of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiating texts. According to Greenpeace, “the documents unveil for the first time the US position and deliberate attempts to change the EU democratic legislative process.”

Molly Scott Cato MEP:

The most sinister aspect of the leak is the way the US is demanding that its corporations can know in advance proposals being made by European law makers and will be given particular status in our legislative process. This is a totally unacceptable threat to European democracy.

That is right, the US demands to know in advance what the EU is doing or planning to do. Presumably for confirmation of what they already know through spying.

The US, and for that read US corporations, is looking to change regulation in Europe to lessen the protections on the environment, consumer rights and other rights and protection.

This would mean for example accepting genetically modified foods, glyphosate from Monsanto.

What is disgraceful, is not only that TTIP means handing over democratic control to global corporations, but also that EU is pushing this through in secret.

Flash mob disrupts TTIP presentation

October 26, 2015

Well done all those who disrupted a presentation on TTIP  by EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström.

TTIP is being negotiated by the EU in secret. It will negotiate away our democratic rights and turn Europe into a slave colony for large corporations.

Stop TTIP dismantling democracy

Big business already has too much power, they whistle and corrupt politicians in the pocket of Big Business jump.

TTIP will take this to a whole new level. Through secret courts, Big Business will be able to override democratic decisions on labour rights, environmental protection, banking regulation, intellectual property, provision of health care and education.

TTIP is dressed up as a trade deal, it has very little to do with trade. It is about mass transfer of power from the people to Global Corporations.

Do we really wish to hand yet more power to Monsanto, HSBC?

A vote in the European Parliament on Wednesday could kill TTIP dead.

We must ensure Members of the European Parliament are listening to the people not Global Corporations.

Hundreds of organisations in the UK and across the EU have come together to build the huge, united opposition to TTIP. If you have not already signed the petition opposing TTIP, then please sign. Every name counts.

London and other EU capitals are crawling with corporate lobbyists, whores who work for Big Business. They see TTIP as a chance to consolidate their grip on decisions that affect everyone of us on ever single day. TTIP would allow global corporations to sue the government if decisions go against them.

The corrupt European Commission is negotiating TTIP in secret.

97% of EU citizens who responded to an official consultation on TTIP said they did not want secret trade courts to decide on social and environmental standards. The Commission says it’s listening, but it hasn’t committed to prevent companies challenging laws they don’t like, or demanding compensation if their “future anticipated profits” are affected by democratic decisions. If the EU was listening they would scrap TTIP. But then who expects the EU to listen when it is a club for Big Business?

Members of the European Parliament have the power to reject any trade treaty, and they only have days to vote to REJECT TTIP. Over 450 organisations have already built a massive ‘European Citizens’ Initiative’ petition against the TTIP power grab, and if you and I join them now in huge numbers, we can demand MEPs put democracy before corporate power.

Saying no to TTIP is only the start. We have to from the bottom up restructure society in order that it is no longer controlled by Big Business.

An assault on European and US societies by transnational corporations. — John Hilary, Executive Director of War on Want

TTIP is a secret trade deal between US and EU that will give global corporations unprecedented powers over our lives, as if they did not control us already, they will be able to sue governments in secret trade courts.

TTIP is so secret that even Members of the European Parliament are kept in the dark. What we do know, has come via leeks.

Yesterday, demonstrations took place across Europe against TTIP.

TTIP will reduce environmental protections, reduce food safeguards, removal of employment protection, making draconian intellectual property rights even more so, loosening of banking regulations, sell-off of NHS …

In other words, it is a Charter or Bill of Rights for Corporations, at the very time when we are celebrating Magna Carta.

KFC is lobbying for a lowering of food safety. Can what is served by KFC actually get any worse?

Do we want KFC, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, dictating what we eat and drink, dictating what employment conditions shuuld be?

David Cameron is pushing TTIP. Labour is not opposing TTIP. The Green Party are opposed.

An assault on European and US societies by transnational corporations. — John Hilary, Executive Director of War on Want

Do our corrupt politicians act for us, or are they merely pimps and whores plying their trade out of the Big Businesses brothel?

ConDem creation of temporary de-skilled, part-time, low-paid, zero-hours, soul-destroying McJobs.

Deafening silence from useless Ed Miliband and ToryLite Labour.

TTIP is not a trade treaty, it is treaty to allow rapacious global corporations to rape and pillage at will. The Vikings had nothing on global corporations.

Secret courts, corporate lawyers, reach settlements on behalf of global corporations.

Romania fracking, Greece gold mining, resemble war zones, with locals who are trying to defend their way of life, safeguard their drinking water, being attacked by tooled up para-military cops.

Monsanto stopping farmers in Ghana saving seeds.

In Vermont Starbucks and Monsanto attempting to strike down state law requiring food labelling.

Ecuador sued when it shut down an oil company for failing to comply with Ecuadorian law.

In Hawaii. Monsanto is trying to overturn a democratic decision to place a moratorium on genetically modified crops.

The Australian government, after massive debates in and out of parliament, decided that cigarettes should be sold in plain packets, marked only with shocking health warnings. The decision was validated by the Australian supreme court. But, using a trade agreement Australia struck with Hong Kong, the tobacco company Philip Morris has asked an offshore tribunal to award it a vast sum in compensation for the loss of what it calls its intellectual property.

Argentina imposed a freeze on people’s energy and water bills (does this sound familiar?). It was sued by the international utility companies whose vast bills had prompted the government to act. For this and other such crimes, it has been forced to pay out over a billion dollars in compensation.

In El Salvador, local communities managed at great cost (three campaigners were murdered) to persuade the government to refuse permission for a vast gold mine which threatened to contaminate their water supplies. A victory for democracy? Not for long, perhaps. The Canadian company which sought to dig the mine is now suing El Salvador for $315 million – for the loss of its anticipated future profits.

In Canada, the courts revoked two patents owned by the American drugs firm Eli Lilly, on the grounds that the company had not produced enough evidence that they had the beneficial effects it claimed. Eli Lilly is now suing the Canadian government for $500 million, and demanding that Canada’s patent laws are changed.

The Swedish company Vattenfall is suing the German government for shutting down nuclear power.

The Stop TTIP petition has nearly a million signatures, the 38 Degrees petition has nearly a million signatures. A few weeks ago, there were 450 protest actions across 24 member states. The undemocratic unelected European Commission was forced to hold a public consultation about the most controversial aspect, and 150,000 people responded.

If you have not signed these anti-TTIP petitions please sign. Please also share with your friends, family and colleagues.

It is not terrorists who threaten us, it is rapacious global corporations.

TTIP Day One

November 3, 2014

TTIP is being forced through, without any public debate or discussion. A back-door secret deal that will see a massive shift of power to Global Corporations.

TTIP & transparency

October 19, 2014

A trade agreement TTIP is being negotiated between EU and US.

A trade agreement that will pass more powers to global corporations to trash the environment, to walk all over ordinary people.

A trade agreement that is being negotiated in secret.
