Stop CETA support Wallonia

We will never decide anything under an ultimatum or under pressure. — Paul Magnette, Wallonia

CETA, like TTIP, is a trade deal. Though trade is something of a misnomer.

Both are about handing control to global corporations to decide our future in secret trade courts. Both are being pushed in secret by the EU.

CETA is with Canada, TTIP with the US.

CETA appears to have been derailed by Wallonia, a region of Belgium. Now joined by the Brussels region in opposing CETA.

The supreme irony, the people have revolted at the heart of the evil empire.

Enormous pressure is being put on Wallonia by the EU corporate thugs.

It is important Wallonia and Brussels stand firm as they are all that stands between CETA being ratified. By standing firm, they are acting for all of us.

Last week, the Wallonian prime minister, Paul Magnette, did what no other European leader had the courage to do, and declared his government won’t support CETA. He stood up for democracy and became the champion of the millions of Europeans opposing the deal.

The European Commission and the EU’s big member states aren’t willing to give up, and they are putting huge pressure on Paul Magnette to back down in time for a signing ceremony planned for later this week. Now only one thing stands in their way — Paul Magnette and the brave Belgian regions.

Paul Magnette stood up for democracy over corporate power – but he might buckle under the pressure from all sides, unless we can send him a huge show of support from people across Europe. But we don’t have long to act: the EU and Canada are hoping to force Wallonia to retreat in the next 48 hours. So we must stand with Wallonia now!

CETA is a huge trade deal bewteen EU and Canada that would hand corporations the power to overturn our laws in their favour. If all EU member states agreed it could mean that everything from environmental protection to consumer safety laws are under threat from greedy corporations.

Wallonia is being intimidated by the Commission and some big member states. Paul Magnette said he was receiving “thinly veiled threats” because he is trying to make sure CETA doesn’t override basic democratic values.

We need to show the unelected undemocratic EU that Paul Magnette has our support from all over Europe, and we won’t stand for the EU abusing its power.

Please sign the petition opposing CETA and supporting the stance taken by Wallonia.

Stop TTIP dismantling democracy

Stop TTIP

Big business already has too much power, they whistle and corrupt politicians in the pocket of Big Business jump.

TTIP will take this to a whole new level. Through secret courts, Big Business will be able to override democratic decisions on labour rights, environmental protection, banking regulation, intellectual property, provision of health care and education.

TTIP is dressed up as a trade deal, it has very little to do with trade. It is about mass transfer of power from the people to Global Corporations.

Do we really wish to hand yet more power to Monsanto, HSBC?

A vote in the European Parliament on Wednesday could kill TTIP dead.

We must ensure Members of the European Parliament are listening to the people not Global Corporations.

Hundreds of organisations in the UK and across the EU have come together to build the huge, united opposition to TTIP. If you have not already signed the petition opposing TTIP, then please sign. Every name counts.

London and other EU capitals are crawling with corporate lobbyists, whores who work for Big Business. They see TTIP as a chance to consolidate their grip on decisions that affect everyone of us on ever single day. TTIP would allow global corporations to sue the government if decisions go against them.

The corrupt European Commission is negotiating TTIP in secret.

97% of EU citizens who responded to an official consultation on TTIP said they did not want secret trade courts to decide on social and environmental standards. The Commission says it’s listening, but it hasn’t committed to prevent companies challenging laws they don’t like, or demanding compensation if their “future anticipated profits” are affected by democratic decisions. If the EU was listening they would scrap TTIP. But then who expects the EU to listen when it is a club for Big Business?

Members of the European Parliament have the power to reject any trade treaty, and they only have days to vote to REJECT TTIP. Over 450 organisations have already built a massive ‘European Citizens’ Initiative’ petition against the TTIP power grab, and if you and I join them now in huge numbers, we can demand MEPs put democracy before corporate power.

Saying no to TTIP is only the start. We have to from the bottom up restructure society in order that it is no longer controlled by Big Business.

The Story of Stuff

October 9, 2010

In the natural world there is no such thing as waste either in time or space. The output of one process is the input to another.

All loops should be closed. We should either use natural materials that can be reused, recycled or composted; or our manmade materials should parallel the natural world and form closed loops. We should have zero waste. All toxic materials should be eliminated.

All trade should be fairtrade.
