Afternoon at Sirena Bay

October 4, 2015

Last week, I found Sirena Bay closed.

I decided to visit at the weekend, in the hope there would be people around.

A very pleasant Saturday afternoon, the bar was open, a couple of beers, interesting conversation.

Sirena Bay, a quiet secluded bay, is always worth a visit.

Sirena Bay is one of those places where one can easily spend an afternoon.

I arrived around four, had intended to leave around six, was there until nearly seven.

Yesterday was to have been my last visit to Sirena Bay, but, I had agreed to meet a friend, and it was difficult to imagine anywhere nicer to meet than Sirena Bay.

It was threatened a massive thunderstorm. We caught the edge as it passed by, gale force wind but no rain.

Sirena Bay is one of those places where one can easily spend an afternoon.

Alight at bus stop for Crystal Springs Beach Hotel on Paralimni-Pernera road.

Walk down road alongside villas to coast. One way to Crystal Springs beach, the other to Sirena Bay.

The Crystal Springs beach has been re-engineered. You cannot re-engineer beaches. You may think you can, but you cannot. Beaches are a complex interaction of coastal erosion, wind, tides and currents. Re-engineering a beach in one location, has unforeseen consequences elsewhere on a coast.

The spoil from the re-engineered beach has been dumped at the side of the Pernera-Paralimni road, where it is an eyesore and environmental hazard, with dust blowing everywhere in the wind.

Sirena Bay is one of those places where one can easily spend an afternoon.

No 101 bus to Paralimni, alight at Crystal Springs Hotel after passing through Pernera, walk past villas down to the coast, walk along the coast to Sirena Bay.

Sirena Bay is a beautiful unpsoilt spot on the coast.

Somewhere to relax and chill out.

Ideal spot for live concert Jewelia.

The bamboo thickets were burnt and destroyed by the cretins at the Town Hall, who seem to hate anything not covered in concrete. Habitat to a rare water snake, an EU listed endangered species, whose endangered status now serves as protection for its own habitat.
