Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot …

Guy Fawkes night is celebrated or marked on the fifth of November. An effigy of Guy Fawkes, or these days often someone who is disliked eg Tony Blair, is burnt on a bonfire.

Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament with kegs of gunpowder but the plot was discovered.

Following the movie, V for Vendetta, a Guy Fawkes mask has became a symbol of the fight against the establishment. In internet, this fight is carried out by a group that called themselves “Anonymous”.

On Saturday, it was the 75th Anniversary of the Jarrow March. Young people, many grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the original marchers, marched from Jarrow and arrived in Parliament Square.

In a show of soladarity, campers from St Paul’s in-the-Camp tried to march from St Paul’s to join them.

Things did not go according to plan. The police kettled the protesters and attacked them.

Welcome to democracy in England.

On Saturday, BBC 2 showed V for Vendetta, as did St Paul’s in-the-Camp.
