nieve en los castillos en la arena

The castle sand sculpture, representing a small Medieval central European town, was destroyed on St Valentine´s Day. Slowly, slowly, a labour of love, it has been reconstructed.

Now the final touch, snow.

El Rastro en el Mercado

El Rastro en el Mercado

Todos los Miércoles.

Every Wednesday, a smaller version of the Saturday market.

Ground floor and top floor of Municpal Market.

Mainly junk, but you can find everything: books, clothes, antiques, jewelry, knives, watches, honey, clothes …

First floor is food, fruit and vegetables, fish, little restaurants, a tea and coffee shop.

There was actually more here today, than Saturday, as Saturday torrential rain, but food stores not busy.  I have never seen the tea and coffee shop busy, and cannot see it surviving. Their coffee is undrinkable.

Most things can be found on this market. A strange cross between a car boot sale, farmers market and craft fair.

Day 8

Last weekend, the castles in the sand on the beach at Playa Jardín were found to be destroyed.

Today, marks Day 8 of their reconstruction.

I thought maybe with three days of heavy rain taking its toll, reconstruction would probably have to begin again, but no, most has been salvaged.

The reconstruction will be documented day by day.

nieve en las montañas y en el Teide

nieve en el Teide

nieve en el Teide

Three days of heavy torrential rain. In the mountains the rain falls as snow.

Snow not only covering El Teide, but also on the mountains surrounding Puerto de la Cruz.

In England, nothing like this volume of rain, and yet widespread flooding.

In Puerto de la Cruz, a stream in Barranco San Felipe ( a dry river valley), nothing more.

The reason the difference, hills in Tenerife covered in trees.

cappuccino

cappuccino

Watching a skilled barista at work is always a pleasure. To find one in Tenerife is indeed a not only a pleasure, but an extremely rare find.

Installation of an espresso machine, a barman not a barista, does not produce drinkable coffee.

To find therefore a new coffee shop, with a  barista who actually knows about coffee, is a find indeed. And to be served an excellent cappuccino

What is now needed, is someone to establish a specialist coffee roastery, importing and roasting beans from Latin America.

Third day of heavy rain, few stalls, market all but deserted.

Only the food stalls were busy.

Todos los Sábados.

Every Saturday

Ground floor and top floor of Municpal Market.

Mainly junk, but you can find everything: books, clothes, antiques, jewelry, knives, watches, honey, clothes …

Most is cheap rubbish, but can find Rolex and Omega watches (and fakes), old cameras.

First floor is food, mainly fruit and vegetables, including organic, but also fish and meat.
