Frosty New Year’s Day

frosty morning

frosty morning

A surprise this morning, first day of the New Year and a frost, the first cold morning of the year.

November and December 2015 were seeing unseasonable daytime temperatures of around 13-15C, ten degrees above the seasonal norm.

On track to being the warmest December on record, on track to being the warmest year on record.

But this morning an hour after sunrise, the frost was already vanishing compared with sunrise.

It was the coldest and the warmest morning of the year!

It could not have been both.

It started -1C, maybe reached 5C. Colder than last two months, part from one Saturday in December when it was bitterly cold.

  3. keithpp Says:

As expected, December 2015 has proved to be the hottest December on record.

I thought New Year’s day was the first day of 2016? – so it had to be both!
