Barbara Pokryszka worked for a Hilton Hotel in London, or to be pedantic, she worked at the Hilton Hotel, but was not employed by the hotel, she was contacted by a cleaning company.
She came to England from Poland in 2008. She is an artist, in Poland she had her own gallery, In England she was penniless, with little English, there were few job opportunities open to her, she took a cleaning job, working as a room maid.
She found the work to be exploitative, often required to work many more hours than her contracted hours, as it was impossible to meet the room target within the allotted hours.
She has written and illustrated a graphic novel Tale of Two Cities based upon her experiences.
