An Open Letter to Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall

Jeremy Corbyn: I do not believe in personal abuse of any sort

Jeremy Corbyn: I do not believe in personal abuse of any sort

I honestly and wholeheartedly wish that a woman in this leadership campaign had been conducting themselves like Jeremy Corbyn – laying out positive principled fresh policies, listening to us, the people and new supporters – getting us all fired up and queueing around the block to re-engage in politics. Giving us hope. But let’s be totally honest, that hasn’t happened has it?

Instead I have witnessed an ugly one-sided bun fight, which in the last week has become distressing at best – as the Labour Party machine has quite openly turned itself in full force (in the media and online) against one of their own candidates – the one who’s been out here getting us all engaged and involved – it’s been absolutely shameful.

Jeremy Corbyn has been dutifully serving the Labour Party for the past 30 years and during this leadership campaign, his own beloved party have treated him with such a shocking disrespect and utter contempt that it has been both distressing and embarrassing to witness. I can’t remember a situation in recent politics where a decent man of principle, conviction and service has had to face such machinations and treachery from his own colleagues – it has been an attempt at bullying – pure and simple. So if he doesn’t win the leadership then extreme bullying will and that is more depressing than anything I can imagine as an outcome right now.

So many people, myself included, became supporters & prospective members – we got involved because of a positive and hopeful campaign for everybody’s future – the Jeremy Corbyn campaign. And now it would seem that the Labour Party elite see fit to calling us Trots and Marxists for believing in a man’s vision?! Is that appropriate? NO! An ex Prime Minister has even called us heartless, and others have referred to us as morons and lefty scum and infiltrators – I have voted Labour most of my life – and Jeremy Corbyn brought me back – surely that’s a thing to be celebrated? His positive and inspiring campaign of hope and involvement gave me cause to get stuck in – and my reward? Insults and a chance to witness a mass propaganda campaign by his own party against him. It has knocked me absolutely sick.

My choice will be to vote for the man who made me feel that hope, the man who shared his vision through a constant barrage of abuse and who still kept telling us positively and with decency towards the rest of you, exactly what he stood FOR – whilst you all continued to holler and dismiss him and talk about how about how you were all so AGAINST him and how unelectable he is in your opinion, again and again and again. He’s your colleague – your loyal comrade. Doesn’t that mean anything to you? How on earth could you possibly think that the past three weeks of utter abuse might have made him feel? Many people in the Labour Party owe that man a sincere and heartfelt apology.

And, what’s more, I think it’s up to us, the public and the new supporters to let you know who is electable, don’t you? I choose Jeremy Corbyn. I choose decency in the face of despicable bullying. I choose principle over poking people with a stick. I choose hope.

Wonderful open letter Wendy Richardson posted by Occupy London.

When people get their junk pleading e-mail from Liz Kendall and Yvette Cooper, I suggest copy this letter in response.

  1. keithpp Says:

Jeremy Corbyn supporters are being purged, on the other hand, is it OK for Yvette Coper to take £75,000 from a Tory Party donor? Or Liz Kendall funded by lobbyists?

Peter Hearn who gave gave Yvette Cooper £75,000 to support her campaign for the Labour leadership is not any old Tory donor. He is a multi-millionaire accountant behind PSD Group, an executive recruitment firm specialising in high-level jobs in banking, finance, and other sectors.

Activists, occupy, student leaders, are purged, a man linked to bankers, who is funding a leadership candidate, is ok.
