Yesterday, I picked up a copy of The Alchemist, then passed the copy on to a friend.

Today, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho has notched up two hundred and seventy-three consecutive weeks in the New York Times best-seller list.

Not bad for a book that was first published twenty-five years ago.

It is easy to see why, even after twenty-five years of publication, The Alchemist is still proving to be so popular.

A Hungarian girl noticed I had several Paulo Coelho books (I was about to give them to a friend, to share with her sisters. She noticed one was The The Alchemist, and then went on to tell me how it had changed her life.
