What a surprise to find you listening to Man Kunto Maula!!!
I’m listening to it right now:) even as I write.
I rather prefer the Qawwali sung by Jafar Husain Khan Badauni.I recently found his qawwalis on You tube.We had audio tapes of all the qawwalis sung by him but which father gave away to some Muslim friends years ago so that they may also enjoy the Sufi poetry set to music.
Amir Khusrau is a favourite with me just as is Ghalib.
Not sure if you can tolerate listening to 15 minutes plus of a qawwali so didn’t share the link.
Happy to find this here on your blog.Today.Thanks, Keith.
To be very honest ,not quite there.I was thinking about listening to some music to relax and when I saw this I felt the desire to.Just so surprised to find this particular song here!
But it’s true that I have been listening to a lot of Badauni lately.Too many coincidences related to his qawwalis.I won’t even try explaining. But I believe you understand going by your article:)
It’s Friday.I met someone who I’d been meaning to ask about these very qawwalis but the way things turned out today it slipped my mind. I wanted the meaning of the Sufi lyrics and he’s a devout Muslim and he would surely know.As he left for the afternoon prayers,I asked him to pray to Allah for me-we call it “Dua”.
I’m saying that these qawwalis mean a lot to me and of all the people I know via the Web, it’s you who shared this one !!!
I don’t know if what I’m saying is making any sense…
