Ponte Vecchio is the old wooden bridge that crosses the River Brenta at Bassano del Grappa.

The bridge is also known as Ponte degli Alpini in honour of the Italian Alpine troops.

It is the key landmark of Bassano del Grappa.

Suprisingly, the bridge is cobbled and paved.

The bridge runs though two arches.

Perfect place to write a beautiful novel!

      Exactly what Ernest Hemingway did!

Ernest Hemingway was an ambulance driver World War I and spent many days in Bassano and wrote part of A Farewell to Arms.

Recently serialised on BBC Radio 4 (I think last year).
