La vida sin música, no en vida. — Vicky Lopéz

Fusiones Ensamble dos orillas en concierto en Turistkyrka en Puerto de la Cruz en Tenerife.

Fusiones un fusión de música de Americano Sur y Canarias.

I have a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

La semana pasada en oficina de turismo, my eye was caught by two posters: one for a talk on Winston Churchill, the other for a concert by Ensamble dos orillas in the Swedish church.

I had seen nothing on this concert when I had passed the church earlier, so I passed back that way later in the day.

As I passed the church a man carrying a guitar asked could he help me. A few seconds earlier or later and we would not have met. I followed him into the church. He was able to tell me all about the concert, and even offered to sell me a ticket.

I had no idea what to expect. It could be rubbish, it could be great.

The concert last night was fantastic, the female singer excellent voice, great musicians.

Ensamble dos orillas is a five-piece ensemble with an interesting line-up: Javier Castro-Gomis (timple), Neftali Coello (percussion), Vicky Lopéz (female vocalist), José Moreno (acoustic guitar), William Luis (bass guitar).

The flyers said folklore. Literally folk music, but probably meant folk music.

It was not folk. At times I was reminded of the music of Ana Caram, especially her album Rio After Dark. A fusion of Latin America and Canary Islands with a strong hint of jazz, but not boring jazz, jazz with soul, jazz with character.

We had a brief chat during the interval, followed by a much longer chat after the concert.

I suggested they uploaded their music to bandcamp where it would then be available to a much wider audience and explained the advantages of FLAC over mp3. [see mp3 v FLAC]

I came away with two signed copies of their album Fusiones (same music as concert, though with slightly different line-up), one for me, one to be given away as a present.

When Fusiones is uploaded to bandcamp, it will be featured here.

I would love Ensamble dos orillas to perform a concert of the music of Astor Piazzolla and to record as an album. I even have thoughts for the album cover.
